Lizards make popular pets due to their ease of keeping, especially calmer lizards. Because there are so many of them available on the market today, I can’t list all of them here on one page, but I will list a few of my favorites.
These attractive nocturnal lizards are popular pets due to their small size and simple care requirements. They are available in many striking color and pattern variations and can reach a length of 8-10 inches when fully-grown and live over 15 years.
Green iguanas are rapidly growing, intelligent lizards requiring extensive taming and socializing to become good family pets. In just five years iguanas can reach up to six feet in length! With careful attention to their specific environmental and dietary requirements iguanas can live 10 to 15 years, or even longer.
Blue Tongue Skink
Skinks are lizards that are native to many parts of the world. They generally have triangular heads, robust bodies with long tails and small legs. Some varieties have brightly colored tongues, such as the Blue-Tongued Skinks of Australia. Most Blue-Tongued Skinks grow to around 15-19 inches long when mature. They make interesting pets that are easy for all members of the family to handle.
